A gem in the Tourism BC Visitor Centre Network, the Queen Charlotte / Daajing Giids Visitor Centre is located in Spirit Square, the heart of a village called Queen Charlotte by the Settlers, and Daajing Giids by the Haida. We have been partially open all year round; but we are only just beginning to open fully with the rest of the Province.
We hope to resume our 7-day-a-week schedule later this summer, but meanwhile we are very glad to see you for 6. Drop by when we are open, leave us a voicemail when we are closed, or email at your convenience. We respectfully ask that masks be worn inside the Visitor Centre, as we are maintaining our hygienic routines to minimize any lingering risks posed by COVID. It’s great to be back with you! Whether you are imagining, experiencing, or remembering your incredible journey to Haida Gwaii, our staff are on a mission to serve your information needs.
Five Essential Haida Phrases
On Haida Gwaii there are two distinct dialects of Haida, the Northern, or Masset (xaad kil) and the Southern, or Skidegate (HlGaagilda Xaayda Kil). A great deal of work towards preserving the Haida language has been accomplished by the Skidegate Haida Immersion Program, (SHIP) to whom we are grateful for sharing these words with the Indigenous languages resource FirstVoices.
